GEORG FRIEDRICH LUDWIG LAVES
crater vase

In 1818, Laves designed his version of the classic Italian crater vase, which he had encountered on his grand tour in Italy in 1814/15, for the gate pillars of the garden master's house of the Herrenhäuser Berggarten in Hanover.

For the mountain garden, this plant bowl with its perfect proportions was made of cast cement; The design was reconstructed using the remains of the shards found in the basement of the garden master's house and is now made by hand in a small factory in Impruneta from frost-resistant terracotta.
